We recycle and compost as much of our waste as possible with the compost being used in the gardens. Paper free online booking means we need very few consumables. Our website acts as our 'online brochure' and eliminates the need for a paper brochure. Our flyers and business cards are made from recycled paper.

We have a water butt onsite for watering plants. We steam clean floors instead of wasting buckets of water. Bed linen and towels are washed on an eco setting. All taps and showers are fitted with aerators to ensure maximum efficiency. We provide glass bottles to chill tap water. We have a water meter to help us monitor and manage our water consumption.

Underfloor heating and water heating are provided by our UK-made environmentally friendly wood-pellet boiler with FSC certified pellets sourced locally. Our electricity is supplied by Octopus Energy from 100% renewable sources and we have a Smart Meter to help us monitor and manage our energy consumption. We have an EV chargepoint onsite.

We use eco friendly cleaning products and cloths and provide guests with Smol and Method products. We provide organic, handmade soap for our guests from small local supplier, It’s Only Natural. Our loo roll is sourced from Who Gives A Crap - it's made from 100% environmentally friendly materials and over 50% of their profits are donated to help build toilets for those in need.

We purchase environmentally friendly materials and buy local whenever we can and instead of buying new have upcycled some items of furniture. Our welcome pack contains homemade goodies with ingredients sourced locally to cut down on food miles. Both cottages feature the work of local artists and our welcome folders and signs were made by The Workshop - a social enterprise in Aberfeldy.

We are members of Green Tourism UK and are active in our local community. Clare sits on a local small grant assessment panel, is a qualified fire-fighter with the local volunteer fire service and is a Trustee of Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust. We donate £1 from every booking to the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Trees for Life and Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance. We worked with the award-winning MyTravelPledge initiative to provide discounted stays for frontline health and care sector workers. We have completed training run by Zero Waste Scotland and Clare is a certified Green Champion.

Our cottages are well insulated to maximise energy efficiency and have thermostatically controlled underfloor heating. Towel heaters are timed to come on twice a day to dry towels instead of all day and night. Our eco-friendly hot tubs are have extra insulation to prevent heat loss. All indoor lighting is provided by LEDs and external lighting is a combination of LED and solar. A++ efficiency appliances are fitted throughout. Both Cottages are C rated for energy efficiency and A rated for environmental impact under the EPC Scotland Scheme. Our EPC certificates can be found here: Cottage 1; Cottage 2.

Our rural location means that we have an abundance of wildlife. We have conserved and protected their habitats, creating wild areas on site and using indigenous plants, flowers and trees in our landscaping. We have a number of nesting boxes for both birds and mammals and a large variety of feeders for birds and red squirrels. Our choice of plant species is carefully considered to encourage bees, birds and bats alike and we have deliberately preserved a number of dead trees around the site as pollinator havens. The fresh flowers that welcome our guests are sourced from the garden, not flown in from overseas.

We report data weekly to the British Trust for Ornithology and participate in the annual Great Scottish Squirrel Survey. Guests are encouraged to help by noting down the wildlife you see in a nature diary. Wildlife identification guides, binoculars and star charts are provided. We work with other local, environmentally aware businesses, including Nature Nuts, Outdoor Explore, Nordic Walking Highland Perthshire and Perthshire Treks to organise wildlife walks and kayak trips for our guests. Secure bike storage is available for those able to enjoy ‘car free’ days. We provide information about local activities, shops and eateries to help our guests make the most of their stay with us and reduce their impact on the local environment.
